Harit Swaraj (SADED) organized a two-day workshop on 'Water and Society' on 9-10 May, 2013. It was held at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Ganna Sansthan in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.On both the days, the programme was chaired by Sh. Rajender Chaudhary, a senior leader of the ruling Samajwadi Party who is also a Cabinet Minister in the current state government. Several intellectuals, activists, journalists, retired bureaucrats and experts on water issues attended the programme.

Sh. Vijay Pratap gave a brief introduction about the organisers and the purpose of the two-day workshop. He said the issue of water is becoming crucial day by day and it is necessary to think and act to resolve the issue.

Day 1 – The programme was moderated by Sh. Sudhir Jain and mainly two presentations were made by Sh. V.K. Joshi and Sh. K.K. Jain. After both the presentations, the participants from different regions shared their regional water problems. A discussion on the issue followed.

Shri Shubham Mishra of Urban Narratives screened a documentary 'Yamuna Katha' and also introduced the purpose and theme of the documentary.

Day 2 – Shri Vijay Pratap moderated the discussion. Shri Arun Kumar ‘Pani Baba’ made the keynote presentation on 'Bundelkhand: A Wonder' and the discussant was Shri V.K. Joshi.

After the presentation and comments, a plan of action to work on the Uttar Pradesh Water Policy was discussed. A committee under the leadership of Shri Arun Kumar 'Pani Baba' and Shri V.K. Joshi was formed to work on the subject. It was decided to meet at Panchnad for the next round of planning and work.

At the end of the programme, chairing remarks were made by Shri Rajender Chaudhary who assured that his government will take every possible action to deal with the water problem.
